Analysis of Georgia Biology Standards
One of the defenses made by the Georgia Department of Education of their weird renaming of evolution is that all they’ve done is changed a word, while leaving the concept intact. This is not true. Their life science standards are based on recommendations from the AAAS, but an Analysis of Georgia Biology Standards made by Reed Cartwright at the University of Georgia reveals that they have essentially disemboweled any discussion of evolution from their standards. Cartwright’s page is a copy of the AAAS standards, with the Georgia deletions highlighted in bold.
Check it out. Over most of the document, there is a scattering of deletions, some seemingly random, some a bit suspicious (apparently, they are a bit squeamish about discussing sexual reproduction, too), but anything to do with the evolution of life is subject to the axe. In particular, the grade 9-12 section on evolution has been thoroughly gutted.

If they've left the concept completely intact as they claim, then why change the word at all? What's so abhorrent or "politically incorrect" about calling a spade a spade?
