A dismal day…
…and a woeful weekend at Chez Myers. I had to do way too much driving today, and all to a sad end: our foreign exchange student, Rossella, is now on her way back to Italy. We had no idea what a dirty trick AFS was pulling on us—we get a new daughter, and then after a year, they yank her away from us. Yeah, she has her own family back in Matera who haven't seen her in a year and are going to be overjoyed to get her back, but so what? We're still glum. The ray of Mediterranean sunshine in our Northern home has flown away.
Sigh.
Oh, well. I'm going to indulge myself with a little family album below the fold. Don't bother clicking through if the personal stuff bores you.

Fishing at Lake Rachel.

Cooking pancakes with Connlann.

Making lefse with Skatje.

On our way to Christmas in New York.

High school graduation.

A week in California and Mexico.

Rossella, a friend from Italy, and Connlann saying goodbye.

A last picture with the family before we all depart.
It's been a great year…now we just have to figure out how to arrange a trip to Italy!

You should hurry to Italy. There is an exhibit of sorts in Pompeii showing off the foods of old from the plants that have germinated from teh found seeds. Sure, the fermented fish guts may not be quite like anchovies, but when in Rome ....
Funding ends at end of July.
(I have always thought a restaurant with the name and intent like, say, The Paleo Palate, would be interesting. Desert: Jelly mold ala Henry VIII.)
Yes, I know it would not be paleo, but old palate has a bad taste to it.)
