Edwards vs. Aguillard

I was just reminded that today is the 16th anniversary of the Edwards vs. Aguillard decision by the US Supreme Court. This was the decision that a law passed by the Louisiana legislature to force the teaching of creationism in the schools was unconstitutional.

Unfortunately, since that time we’ve had to deal with attempts to sneak creationism into the curriculum by way of “Intelligent Design”, and by attempts to simply delete evolution entirely from our educational standards. Edwards vs. Aguillard was a battle won, but there are still far too many ongoing struggles against a blinkered religious dogma that should have withered away long ago.

Minnesota has its very own infamous creationism court case, Rodney LeVake vs. Independent School District #656. At least we’re still winning them all, so far!
