Gimme that old time religion

Two things that go great together on a Sunday morning: Cthulhu and The Family Circus.

(This was sent to me by a very disturbing Norwegian. Beneath their bland, nice demeanors, Minnesotans harbor some strange kinks—if Lovecraft had lived in the upper midwest, I think he would have written far more bizarre stories.)

August Derleth, friend and publisher of Lovecraft's, was from Sauk Prairie, Wisconsin. So there is a Midwestern connection, and it has plenty of weirdness associated with it. http://www.answers.com/topic/august-derleth

Man, you are wierd!

By the way, shouldn't there be another four arms in that picture?

Not to be outdone for weirdness, some Swedes suffer the burning of their Christmas goat.

Looks less Cthulhu, more illithid to me...

But then, I'm sure Ilsenine and Cthulhu dated.

a hilarious Cthulhu-based parody of a well-known one-panel cartoon
All very well if you happen to know the original, but otherwise wasted.

Those of us unfortunate enough to know the original deserve some compensation.

Ignatius Donnelly, XIXc crank, one of the founders of the Atlantis myt, was a Minnesota Congressman (originally from Philadelphia). "The most persuasive argument against Donnelly's theories lies in his lack of facts."

I don't know, I think many people know the Family Circus.

PZ Myers' Pharyngula is displaying a hilarious Cthulhu-based parody of a well-known one-panel cartoon. This fits in well with his squid obsessions.

That's far less frightening than the original it's based on.

"some Swedes suffer the burning of their Christmas goat."

The link was expired, but it could only have been the Gavle goat, close to my birth place. It is built by hay and it was probably too great a temptation for someone the first year.

Maybe it started as a dare or a wager to burn it down, but nowadays it is a competition between the city and the people. It has survived 7 times out of nearly 30 years.

It is ironic that the fire brigade used to build it. (They have stopped, and no one blames them for that decision.) It is also ironic that though many wants it to survive to Yule it has been very nice PR for the city of Gavle. Which _is_ weird.

And there is a series of similar cartoons at the Cthulu Circus.

^This kind of reminds me of the manga "parasyte"

Okay, mothers are non-Euclidean monsters. What's the point?

I love cross-over fan fic, but The Family Circle x Cthulhu? (Thanks to the source of all things Cthulhu: CE Petit).

It was good enough for Dagon,
that conservative old pagan
who still votes for Ronald Regan,
So it's good enough for me!

Give me that Old One Religion...

It was good for Wizard Whateley,
though we haven't seen him lately;
much less fun for poor old Akely
but it's good enough for me!

Give me that Old One Religion...

In Cthulhu we are trusting,
though his rites are quite disgusting,
from his crypt he'll soon be busting!
And that's good enough for me.

etc, etc.
