Hanging out with the blogerati

I haven't dropped off the face of the earth, I'm just hanging out in LA. We had an engrossing meeting yesterday with Manan Ahmed, Christine Boese, Danah Boyd, Brian Carroll, Juan Cole, Jenny DeMonte, Brian Drolet, John Holbo, Clifford V. Johnson, John Mohr, Larry Pryor, Karen G. Schneider, and Bob Stein that kept my brain rather occupied all day, and then a late evening of sushi and conversation.

John Holbo, PZ Myers
John Holbo and I sharing the same small segment of the space-time continuum. This was dangerous, since he kept coining hideous new blog-related neologisms that hurt my brain. I can't tell you what they are since he already has them copyrighted and registered with DNS.
Clifford Johnson
Few people know this, but Clifford Johnson is a mysterious Dr Strange-like figure with a glowing orb who eats ice cream with chopsticks.

Bob Stein, Chris Boese, Juan Cole
The other end of the table was much less fun, as we can see that Bob Stein's and Juan Cole's sober conversation depresses Chris Boese. (just kidding, we all had a good time)

Next, I'm off to explore Los Angeles.

If you're driving around L.A., keep your eye out for murals.

You have a picture of Clifford!! I just went to his site, and of course he's managed NOT to be in his own photos.

I am full of thoughts. Stay warm in Morris.

Yeah... but none of those left-wing pinko bloggers will ever display anything approaching the brilliance of the beautiful minds over at the Powerline blog:

(from http://powerlineblog.com/archives/011183.php)

It must be very strange to be President Bush. A man of extraordinary vision and brilliance approaching to genius, he can't get anyone to notice. He is like a great painter or musician who is ahead of his time, and who unveils one masterpiece after another to a reception that, when not bored, is hostile.

Top *that* one, you commies!

I just deleted this site from my bookmarks - Juan Cole? The anti-Semite is a featured attraction for a posting? -- shame on you! This site was so much better when it was a science website. Hopefully the others fighting the ID loonies don't jump on your bandwagon.

Cheers to all that fight the religious right and the attempted ID takeover - damn all of you supporting Juan Cole and his lies!

btw - did you at least challenge Juan and his make believe crap like you do with the IDers? BS is BS no matter where it comes from

Cole, an anti-Semite? What have you been smoking?
He is critical of Israel, but that doesn't make one an anti-Semite. Heck, I know quite a few Jews who are critical of Israel.

This site was so much better when it was a science website.

Two comments - one, it's possible to only view the science posts here (you have to choose 'science content only' in the top left corner).
Two, was this site ever a website that only dealt with science? In the time I've read Pharyngula, that was certainly never the case.

Dr Myers - I'm not sure if it's the light or heat or what, but you look positively wallied in that picture. :D

Blimey though - bloggers are real people!

Sounds like you had a good time. Was there any substance to the meeting, or did you spend most of the time marvelling at the fact that there was a human behind all those great bloggers?
