I'm sorry, Florida…

…you're getting the odious Cheri Yecke as your new K – 12 chancellor for Florida schools. And I see that Florida is a new target for anti-evolutionists. Coincidence?

I've hammered on Yecke before—she's our local ID apologist who made it to the state board of education before she was finally dismissed, to my great relief. She's a truly incompetent right-wing boob.

I also wished her away to Texas or Florida before—I never knew I had such power. Next time, I'll wish her into a cornfield.

Thanks for the work on this.

I've typed up a sort of summery of issues surrounding evolution as a political debate, and where i think it's headed in a post on my blog titled "Science Education as the New Wedge"

Basically, republican politicians use social issues in cynical political moves directly prior to election campaigns, and their noise machine is ramping up over evolution. They're going to try rallying around this come 2006.

In conclusion, David Horowitz is an intellectual pygmy.

Dammnit Minnesota, why do you have to dump your trash around here? Well, Florida is already a political landfill. One more bag of garbage can't make that much difference, can it?

Thanks, notheory, you give me a (very narrow) opening to put in this, 'cause I don't know where else to put it. Came over the fax this a.m.:

Xlibris: New Book Reveals Evolution Theory's Islamic Roots

ADRIAN, MI. (AUG. 30) -- The theory of evolution has Islamic roots. Fact or fiction? In T.O. Shanavas' provocative new book, 'Creation AND/OR Evolution, an Islamic Perspective,' get to know the real score and witness human life, as you know it, unravel truths that will challenge everything you think you know.

. . . this turns out to be a pro-evolution/pro-creation thesis by the vice president of the Islamic Research Foundation of Louisville, Ky. (Who knew Louisville had one?)

Xlibris is a subsidiary of Random House.

I'm sorry, you just broke my brain. It's both pro-evolution, and pro creation? Either way, it's got islamic roots? I'm very confused.

In conclusion, David Horowitz is an intellectual pygmy.

I am a mere provincial newspaper reporter. I report but cannot explain.

You can request a review copy from Christina Tinapan, . She's looking for an audience.

Um, excuse me? Speaking as a Texan (currently in Illinois), we have enough problems. It took us long enough to send our governor packing and you're trying to sell us this lemon? We don't want her. Talk to Florida.

Hey, if you're going to wish her away, why not wish her back to the Cambrian Era? If nothing else, she could watch all the evolution that didn't happen back then.

We don't want her in Texas. With Gov. Helmethead (my doorknob, how can you make Bush look good?) and his posturing on school funding, plus the State Board of Education here influencing half the K-12 textbooks in the country, we don't need Yecke beyond that.

"Next time, I'll wish her into a cornfield."

A herd of swine might be better.wink

I note that no one seems to have picked up on the "wish into a cornfield" thing. I'd give the ref, but I'm too lazy and busy to hunt up the book.....

No! Don't wish her into a cornfield; she might end up here. Try the ocean!
