Well. I watched this beer commercial (16MB quicktime movie), description here), and was a bit peeved at all the inaccuracies. We are not descended from flying squirrels, ichthyosaurs, or birds, to name a few problems, although they do look very cool.

All errors are forgiven, though, for the expression on the face of the mudskipper at the end.

To celebrate my true purpose, then, I had to go to the refrigerator...and although I didn't have any Guinness on hand, I did have a bottle of Dave Puskala's* Black Bear homebrew, which is just as good.

*Note that people who give me beer get a good return on their investment.

Tell your son in Madison to bring back some beer from these folks:

Their I.P.A. is simply the best I've ever had (it just blows Summit out of the water):

A beer thread! I've come over all nostalgic.

I am partical to Niksicko Pivo from Montenegro. Childhood memories.

In Yugoslavia, you can buy any beer at any grocery store, but for Niksicko Pivo, you have to go to a store that sells it and nothing but it.

That commercial made my night! Thanks grin

Grand Cru for me tonight while celebrating my return on investment and the return of NHL hockey (Wild up 3-1 in the 3rd). Cheers!

PZ, you needed a Gumbies cream stout from White Beer Lake Brewing Company. I will ensure that you get a taste of that with your next delivery.

That's Sammy Davis, Jr. singing on that beer commercial. Any time Sammy gets some new press I am gratified.

Still a good commercial, any chance we'll see it on TV?

Damn, I miss my mudskippers. May they rest in peace . . . buried with my blue ginger.

the expression on the face of the mudskipper
Is that one going into your site randomiser then? It looks as though it needs a speech balloon ...

As an advertisement, with its logo 'good things come to those who wait', I'm wondering if they should have started with the mudskippers and ended with the drinkers at the pub.

Nonetheless, and despite the many fantastical innaccuracies, a groovy commercial.

Beer: I love Guinness, and I find it hard to believe that anything compares. That said, I'm a sucker for good Bavarian dunkl weiss any day.

best,

Guiness is in my fridge right now. Will have one tonight.

In other news, a python ate an alligator. Then, the alligator clawed its way out of the python. Cool picture:

Sleeman's Pale Ale...

I wouldn't worry about accuracy in a TV commercial. Advertising works on a subtle level; people see this ad, have a good laugh and associate that good feeling with the theory of evolution, and that's a good thing.

#42886: Bob Davis — 10/06  at  09:53 AM
Regardless of the technical errors rampant throughout that commercial, the basic point, that beer is the culmination of evolution, is correct. On the other hand, I've collected a theory of evolution that Gin is the culmination of evolution.

Trappist beers, especially Westvleteren "Dobbel", kick Guinass every time; in fact, it will kick your ass too!

Dunkl weisse? With rasbeery?

Wonderful....

Framestore CFC has put out a press release about their most recent Guiness advertisement (warning: that's a 16MB Quicktime movie, and may take a while to download) titled noitulovE featuring three men reverse-evolving from Guiness-drinking humans in a bar
