Not a kangaroo or a raccoon among them

William Rubinstein, the anti-evolutionist history professor, needs to read this. He had a bit of an obsession with cats as examples of evolution, expecting them to turn into kangaroos or raccoons, and was disappointed that they never did. Of course, their history is much more complicated and interesting than that.

Wasn't there a predatory kangaroo sometime in Australia's prehistory? I daresay it didn't look much like a cat, but who knows how things might have turned out if the dice had rolled another way...?
