Oh! I thought that the ghosts of Irish and Viking Holocaust deniers, led by Asterix and Justice Thomas, really arrived in America many centuries ago. You are saying that is not true? But I soooo WANT to believe it is true.... wink

Recommended short story: _The Battle of York_, by James Stoddard (not hard to find: it's collected in this year's _Year's Best SF 10_). It's a far-future historian's attempt at reconstructing American history... only not many clues are left, and what he comes up with is rather amusingly wrong, and more than slightly reminiscent of, well, an ancient myth. Washington, Lafayette, the mighty Custard (!), the invasion of the Gauls, and the dread giant Britannia with its terrible Stamp Act all feature, as well as much else. smile Even I can spot a huge number of in-jokes, and I'm sure there are more visible to people with actual knowledge of American culture.
