The Clinton interview on the Daily Show was...alright. Not a lot of fire, and Clinton seemed a bit disengaged.

The show started with a couple of good bits. Jon Stewart ripped into the phony Swift Boat Veterans ad, pointing out the blatant dishonesty in these guys claiming to have been "with" John Kerry. Colbert mocked the diverse views of the Democratic party by pulling together a group of representatives and pitting them against one another.

Clinton's message was simple: he commented on the Swift Boat Veterans crap and said that Bush did exactly the same kind of smear against McCain and Cleland, and thinks McCain should have bashed back. The Republicans keep throwing slime because it is effective, and it's only going to end when it stops working; he also repeated several times that what needs to be done if for candidates to fight back, and "when someone comes after you, you have to come back at them". He's not advocating negative ads, though, but strong, cogent responses. His best line of the evening, I thought, was that "when you're a democrat, you win when people think."

I'd give the interview 2 stars out of 5. Nothing exciting, not a lot of depth, but straightforward common sense.
