Wells and Dembski: two phonies

On one side, creationists spout unbelievable blathering pseudoscience. I'm sorry, but pretending that centrioles are "holistically designed" is not evidence that they are designed. On the other side, they make fine-grained misconstruals of real scientists' work. That last one is a major annoyance; scientists love problems and welcome problems, but people like Dembski jump on every mention of the word "problem" to crow about the failure of Darwinism. Their habit of quote mining, of pulling words out of context and using them in a way contrary to the author's intent, makes discussion with them impossible.

Creationists are insincere frauds. Can we just tell them to go away now? I'm fed up with them.

Question - Should one congratulate a colleague for publishing in Rivista..?

I would not. At this point, if I saw he had a string of publications in Rivista, I'd regard it about as I would if he were publishing in the Weekly World News.

I know that spelling-flames are frowned upon, but it looks like you misspelled "Moonie"

If only those damned scientists didn't use so many WORDS! How can you discuss something with that many words? I mean, when you can just explain everything by "God did it", anything more MUST be obfuscation.

I think I've said too much already.

yeah, of course the Mooney Times! I just corrected that on my post as well, thanks! (yes, I am being a blog-whore: apologies to PZM).

I think Eugenie Scott was on to something: while the old-fashioned creationists quote-mined and so on, they hardly claimed any intellectual honesty. The obfuscation by the ID people is on a far great scale than what's gone before.

Don't get me started. I'm furious with the intelligent design crowd. As everyone knows, Australians traditionally believe that the world was created by a giant snake called the Rainbow Serpent. Now I'm not trying to put the Rainbow Serpent down here, but how many snakes have you met that could be called intelligent? Intelligent Design is an insult to all those whose gods are unintelligent. I demand they change the name of their theory to intelligent/unintelligent design.

Intelligent Design is a creation story. It is magnificent literature, made even more magnificent by the sheer preposterousness of its current form....
