Yes, we are functional again

As some of you have noticed, Pharyngula is back online again…not that I've actually added anything new to it. I did take advantage of the downtime to quickly pop in some extra RAM into the server (and, boy oh boy, are G5's pretty on the inside), and then the wife and I fled to the big city for a little while for an adventure. I'll say more about that and other things tomorrow, after I've recovered from my busy weekend.

Oh, and there will be some other downtime sometime later this week, but not as prolonged. I am going to update the system, and I think I'll try to reinstall the blogware to get the comment bug fixed.

Having Fun With Intelligent Design
by David Morris, on today's AlterNet, is unbeliavable! Introducting a tough theoretical book, like Elizabeth Lloyd's, to kids who have not yet received the thorough instruction in evolutionary theory? Will not work. Teaching von Daniken in schools? Please, give me a break!:

Funny. I just came by here to post a link to the same David Morris article. I liked it a lot.

I came away from that read with the idea that some creativity put into the curriculum could really give voice to things unanticipated by the "all knowing" school boards. You know, like they should be careful what the pray for.

If they want it taught, if they want to criticize "evolution", then it can open up the avenues for critiquing "intelligent design". This is a valued method of learning.

So if school boards are interested in foisting shinola into the curriculum, I say the teachers should look at it as an opportunity.

Lovely local newspaper article on the creationist museum. Worth a laugh for the little dinosaur with Adam... is it handing him an apple? (Cincinnati Enquirer link)

PZ, you're just obsessed with innards!

...Not that that's a bad thing in a biologist.
