Minnesota has its very own infamous creationism court case, Rodney LeVake vs. Independent School District #656.

I guess that is kind of representative. If only it had a rather more titillating invertebrate in it than LeVake.

  1. "I personally believe that the real war on terrorism is the intellectual battle between democracy on the one side and all three of the major radical branches of politico-religious tyranny on the other, whether it is Wahhabism, Likud Zionism, or Christian Fundamentalism."

  6. On a side note the trawling industry attack has implemented
the famous "Economic Depression Argument." Let's examine the NZ Herald article more closely.

    "massive job losses"
+5pts although "massive" is a bit cliche, how about hefty, elephantine, gigantic, grand, monumental (personal favorite), vast, colossal, excessive, disastrous, or for real punch "historical" or "unprecedented"

  7. My 23rd post was about being put on Robert O'Brien's "perduto il ben de l'intelletto" in other words "dumbasses" list, which includes Pharyngula as well as some other well known blogs. Quite an amazing feat for my modest little blog, I've never been able to match it since.

Since I've removed all but last years journal notes from my server, that means digging through my archives at Grousehaven Memoirs where I found this entry:

We had what I'd call our first real winter thaw today, with temps. in the mid 30's. It was nice to sit out enjoying the birds without frozen fingertips for a change. I watched a White-breasted Nuthatch gathering leaves and litter from around the garage; seems a bit early for any sort of nestbuilding, perhaps they're just going through courtship motions.

I'm looking forward to winter season- I don't mind frozen fingertips, it gives me an excuse to make hot chocolate to thaw them out ;)

  10. Here's mine:
I ended up cutting a rabbet in the end of that piece of siding so it would fit over the end of the piece around the corner from it -- that seemed to work ok but now I need to seal it.
